On a cold January morning I noticed that Country Living mag were doing an article on local food produce. I googled the journalist and found her own website. So I emailed her and asked her if she would like to feature me!!!! as easy as that really.
As it turned out the editor of CL had just asked her not to forget about Northern Ireland, so it was really good timing. First of all we had to send over some samples of our produce - I sent Guinness & Garlic Chutney because of the Irish connections, Smashing Pumpkin Chutney because it won a Gold Great Taste Award and More than Strawberry Jam, a fairly traditional favourite with a twist! As far as I know Discover Ireland organized the flights and accomodation for journalist and photographer. We also had to identify some other food producers locally so that a feature could be done on the area. We contacted Tickety Moo, Theresa O'Hare, Russell & Donnelly (who stock my produce anyway and the Organic Centre). The magazine was already aware of Paddy Doherty and the Tourist Board suggested Belle Isle Cookery should also be included.
The journalist came over in March and was followed by a photographer in May. It took about 4 hours to do the photo shoot (1 photo in the magazine) they also took lots of product shots which they may at some stage use.
And that is really it. It is lovely to see yourself in a glossy magazine. We have had quite a few web and telephone orders and loads of customers have contacted me to say they enjoyed reading the article. We displayed the magazine at the Limavady Show yesterday and it was a good talking point for customers.
