1. Plan your event well in advance
- remember you will need time to advertise the event and sell
your stalls.
2. When choosing your date, research
to see if there are any other big events that might effect your
fair on the day.
3. Advertising - It is very important
that the event is well advertised. The more you advertise the
more successful your event will be.
Advertise by:
- Printed Posters & Flyers. Distribute them in a wide area,
not just the local area!
- Posters in local Shops
- On the Internet at www.craftfairsandevents.com contact craftevents06@aol.com
- On your Local Council Website
- Newspapers have a 'What’s on' Column
- Local Radio Programmes
4. Choose your crafters carefully;
try not to have more than 2 of any particular craft, a good
variety of stalls makes the fair more interesting.
5. Try to have some stalls geared
towards young people e.g. Pick & Paint, Nail Art, Face Painting.
That way both parents and children will enjoy the day.
6. Try to use Genuine
Local Crafters and not people who simply 'buy in'.
7. Don't over book your fair.
Make sure you have room for each crafter to get between and
behind their stalls.
8. Place chairs round the room
with signs 'REST HERE IF YOUR TIRED' elderly and disabled customers
will appreciate this.
9. Keep some parking spaces near
to the front door for elderly and disabled customers.
10. Provide helpers to help crafters
carry in their crafts, then ask the crafter to park their car
a bit away, therefore leaving the car parking spaces near the
hall available for paying customers.
11. Mark the tables clearly with
names of Crafters, that prevents 2 tables being near to each
other that are selling similar Crafts. It also prevents switching
by early birds.
12. Be careful not to block exits
and passageways and to abide by fire safety regulations.
13. Pricing stalls at your event
- most crafters don't make loads of money!
14. Don't over charge at the
door, overcharging puts customers off.
15. If there is a kitchen, provide
tea and coffee for Crafters, and if there is a room nearby or
space, make tea, coffee, cold drinks and biscuits available
for the buyers. This stall will make you money and give the
shoppers time to rest and chat.
16. Create an atmosphere: Sound
& Smell - Music be careful of choice!
